Stylish Sundays: Because Your Favorite Shade Is Navy Blue

I woke up yesterday and realized that not only did I not have photos taken for this week, but I also didn’t know what the hell to wear. Then I remembered this skirt that I wore forever ago, and had said when I bought it that I would wear it well into fall. Well here it is with only a month left of fall and I hadn’t worn it once.

I’m wearing Blue Toggle Coat from Delia’s, Old Navy Polka Dot Sweater, H&M Skater Skirt, Hue Navy Blue Tights, Not Rated Oxfords, and a Gold Pen Necklace.

This outfit turned out better than I thought it would, considering I didn’t know what to wear. I realized that I was wearing a lot of navy blue and ended up having If My Heart Was A House by Owl City stuck in my head all day long. I would have liked this outfit better if I had gone with my first plan of wearing a red sweater and white oxford, but I changed it last minute, because I didn’t want to be wearing an oxford sweater combo 3 weeks in a row.  I also plan on buying different brogues very soon. These ones are getting worn out and I don’t love them as much as I did when I first got them. I’m thinking of maybe these from Zara.

What To Wear: Thanksgiving

I actually did a What To Wear Post for Thanksgiving last year, and I was reminded of it a couple days ago when it showed up in the viewed post for that day. I decided to do an updated one for this year.

Thanksgiving Dinner

Since I did a casual look and a Dressy look last year, I decided to do the same this year.

I started the casual outfit off with this Cardigan from Jack Wills (similar) because it just looks so cozy. Then I added this Duofold Plaid Shirt from Gilly Hicks. Keeping in mind that Thanksgiving is a Food Holiday and I, like Dean Winchester, believe pie is everything, decided to copy last year and go with Leggings for my bottoms. I love these tuxedo leggings from Topshop, Only because the Gilly Hicks top is long enough to cover your bum. These Sperry Dylan boots are gorgeous and I want them in my closet right now. And I finished off the outfit with these bow earrings from Kate Spade.

For the Dressy outfit, I once again took inspiration from Blair Waldorf’s Thanksgiving outfit in Season 1. That is of course my favorite episode. I chose this Cream Lace dress from H&M. Then I thought some cranberry colored tights would look amazing with it, so I picked these from Modcloth. For shoes I went with the pointed toe Brogue Bluchers from Zara, which are on my to buy list. I added this coat from Zara because I loved the color and the collar of it. For Jewelry I thought these Amethyst Studs from Kate Spade and this gold necklace with Curved Bar from H&M (similar) rounded out the outfit nicely.

This year I’m probably going to go with something close to the second outfit to wear for Thanksgiving day. At least that’s my idea right now. I do have 28 days to change my mind.

What are your Thanksgiving traditions? Any Thanksgiving related posts you’d like to see?

Book Review: Getting Rooted In New Zealand

Getting Rooted in New Zealand

For this weeks book review we have Getting Rooted in New Zealand by Jamie Baywood. Since I’m ill I will not be doing an outfit post with this book. I do however have a get the look board.

New Zealand Look

Start off with a pretty dress, I love this one from French Connection (It’s on major sale right now!), then a sweet bow belt, I, of course, chose this one from Kate Spade. Then you need so black patent flats, and you just can’t go wrong with these from Zara. Then for accessories I chose this Apple of My Eye necklace from Kate Spade, it’s so dainty and perfect. Top it all off with this great Trench from H&M and this red hat from Anthropologie. And you have the perfect look to match the cover of this book.

On to the review!

Jamie Baywood is a California Native that after a string of bad breakups, decides to uproot her life and head for New Zealand. This story is about adjusting, finding your place, and falling in love the right way.

About the actual story though, it was strange for me to read because it’s written in diary format, and is a memoir of her time in New Zealand. Normally neither of those are a style of book that I enjoy. Then adding in that some of the things that happened to her while she was in New Zealand were absolutely horrific. She did have some absolutely lovely things happen, but you have to slog your way through the terrible things to get to them. Honestly when I got to the part about her ex’s, I put the book down and walked away. But then I decided to pick it back up the next day and see what happened.

I’ll just say, that like life, love and shopping, this book gets better as you go through it. She’s very frank and seems to tell things exactly as they happened with no embellishment. It’s this deadpan delivery that truly makes some of the things that happen to her seem all the more horrific. Really that’s all the only word that I can come up with for those things. I can’t even imagine how I would have handled them had I been in her place.

However, when she meets the love of her life, you instantly know it’s him. Not because she blatantly says so immediately, but because he’s the brightest spot in her life at that time.

Final Verdict: I highly recommend this book if your thinking of moving to New Zealand. It was definitely an eye opener into working conditions for expats there.

Bonus: Look how adorable the author is!
