So last night I put together a look board for my idea of a perfect cozy outfit for this year.

winter
Pastels are in this winter, as are sweatshirts so not only is Sweatshirt from Victoria’s Secret in Blush completely adorable, I absolutely love the stars, but it’s also completely on trend. I went with these AE Skinnies, because American Eagle really do make some great jeans. Then for boots these Dylan Riding Boots from Sperry are perfect and practical. For accessories I thought that this cable knit hat from Topshop was adorable, and no look post or wish list made by me is complete with out something from Kate Spade, I love these bow earrings, and I thought that this Be Dazzling iPhone case had a great sentiment. Plus it’s glittery and something about winter just screams glitter to me. Then continuing with the pastel theme, this Butter London Polish in Sprog just looked so wintery to me.
I’d probably wear this outfit out running errands. I think it’s the perfect thing to wear to pick up a movie and some take out, before coming home and changing into your pj’s.

Stylish Sundays: On Repeat http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/11/stylish-sundays-on-repeat/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/11/stylish-sundays-on-repeat/#comments Sun, 17 Nov 2013 17:31:51 +0000 mana http://fashionandhappythings.com/?p=1869 Remember last week when I said I had a uniform of sorts that I felt extremely happy and comfortable in? I’m kinda repeating it today. And I want to repeat it over and over, I just adore it.

fashionandhappythings-0702

I’m wearing a Madewell Boyfriend Shirt, Gap Mesh Sleeve Sweater, Victoria’s Secret Most Love Yoga Leggings, and Pink and Pepper Riding boots. My Earrings are Kate Spade and my Necklace is from H&M.

fashionandhappythings-0707

This is my favorite photo of the entire set.

On My Face: Nars Sheer Glow, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, Nars Blush, Lancome Color Design Eyeshadows, Benefit Watts Up, YSl Babydoll Mascara, Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm.

Nails: Lancome Vernis In Love

Hair just washed and air dried.

The Lancome Polishes are some of my absolute favorite polishes. I have 3 of them and can promise that you should be looking forward to a review coming soon.

fashionandhappythings-0701

Normally I’d be upset when my shoes started to get scuffed but I’m actually loving the way these are aging.

I hadn’t realized how long this shirt was before, so I’m actually really happy with it. I know it looks a bit short in this pictures but that’s just the way I’m twisted.

It’s starting to get really cold outside, so I’ll be taking most of my outfit photos inside now. Hope you like this door and it’s little glad air freshener that somehow got randomly hung there. Seriously I don’t even know how that happened. I’ll probably do photos in front of the tree after I put it up.

Shop A Cut Above: Wishlist http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/11/shop-a-cut-above-wishlist/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/11/shop-a-cut-above-wishlist/#comments Sat, 02 Nov 2013 09:00:11 +0000 mana http://fashionandhappythings.com/?p=1793 A Cut Above Boutique has been on my radar for a while but I’ve never really made a full on wishlist until now. I had liked them on Facebook ages ago and on Halloween they posted a picture of a dress. But what had me interested was they said the model was 5’5 and she was a size small. In case you didn’t know that’s actually realistic. And since the world needs more healthy models, I decided I should promote a company that’s using one.

So I was looking on the site for the dress to post about and I found a few things that will be sneaking into my closet as soon as I’m not so skint.

A Cut Above

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8

The first dress is the one that they posted on their facbook. Isn’t it gorgeous? Bonus it’s a reasonable length if you’re a shorter girl. Next I saw this Fraternity Collection shirt, and I think it’s just darling, even though I’m not in College. I had a shirt similar to this Caribbean Way Blouse before and it was one of my favorites until I ruined it in the dryer, I’m pretty sure I’d wear this one in Hunter Green to bits. This Go with the flow skirt is perfect. I love skater style or circle skirts.
Starting the second row is this Falling Together Scarf, and not only is it beautiful, the name makes it extra perfect for fall. Of course these Sarah Riding boots and Outlaw boots made my wishlist. I’m boot obsessed, pretty sure boots are my favorite style of shoe. And finally this Aztec Cardigan is just adorable and so cozy looking. It just screams curl up by a fire with some apple cider and a cute boy/good book (the two are not mutually exclusive.).

I can’t tell you how excited I am about A Cut Above Boutique, and I hope you’ll all go check them out. Leave the names of your favorite items in the comments below so I can see if I missed anything cute!

Book Review: The Halloween Tree http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/10/book-review-the-halloween-tree/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/10/book-review-the-halloween-tree/#comments Wed, 30 Oct 2013 09:05:11 +0000 mana http://fashionandhappythings.com/?p=1779 This weeks book is of course The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury. I couldn’t think of anything more fitting for the day before Halloween.

fashionandhappythings-0124

This book follows 8 boys in a small fictional town on Halloween night as they try to save their friend Pip and discover the meaning of Halloween. Carapace Clavicle Moundshroud takes the boys on an adventure to find out why they’re dressed as witches, monsters, mummies and skeletons. He shows the boys not only the why and the how’s of Halloween, but how far they’ll go to save the greatest boy that ever lived Joe Pipkin.

This book has absolutely no flaws for me, being both written by Ray Bradbury, and a huge part of my childhood. I’d even say that this book has a lot to do with where I live, which is a small town very much like the book where “there wasn’t so much wilderness you couldn’t see the town. But on the other hand there wasn’t so much town you couldn’t see and feel and touch and smell the wilderness.”* Mr. Moundshroud was the first character to show me that sometimes you couldn’t be sure if someone was your friend or a villain until the end. And Pip, oh pip. I hope that by the time he’s 12 my son is just like and has friends as loyal as Joe Pipkin,’ the greatest boy who ever lived, and on the day he was born all the Orange Crush and Nehi soda bottles in the world fizzed over.”*

Final Verdict: I wholeheartedly, full stop, recommend this book. It doesn’t matter how old you are, if you love Halloween, you’ll love this book. Ray Bradbury’s words take you into the world of that Halloween Tree and you find yourself racing with all the boys, and willing to do anything to save Joe Pipkin.

I thought of dressing up in costume this week, but I honestly haven’t worn a costume for Halloween since I was 21. It’s just not my thing anymore. So I decided to wear some of my favorite cozy clothing.

fashionandhappythings-0568

I’m wearing a gray stripey sweater from Gap, Glasses from Kate Spade. Victoria’s Secret Most Loved Yoga Leggings and Pink and Pepper boots. I love this sweater because it’s long enough to cover my butt and make these yoga leggings acceptable for public wear.

Bonus: Pinterest Told Me To  blogger Sheaffer recently did a post about Mixing Black Brown and Gray and I totally agree with her. It’s an amazing combination.

There’s howl being adorable with his Owl toy from Martha Stewart’s Petsmart Line. I really love that line for dog clothes and toys.

fashionandhappythings-0556

My makeup is super simple, just Rimmel’s new Stay Matte Liquid Mousse foundation that I received from Influenster, Nars Deep Throat Blush, Rosebud Salve Strawberry Lipbalm, Nyx Skinny Eye Marker, and YSL Baby Doll Mascara.

My Necklace is a Tiny Owl that I have no clue where I got, and not pictured are my Kate Spade Gumdrop Studs in Clear Silver.

Howl decided to get into the Halloween Spirit:

fashionandhappythings-0558

He says he should totally play a Hell Hound on Supernatural. I keep trying tell him he’s too adorable and Hell Hounds are invisible.

fashionandhappythings-0559

He then said he’s not adorable, he has Fangs and is Majestic and Ferocious, and the resemblance is striking.

What are your Halloween Plans? I plan to take my son trick or treating and then come home to curl up with Bitter River which I’ll be reviewing next week. Happy Halloween.

Stylish Sundays: Proper Autumn http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/09/stylish-sundays-proper-autumn/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/09/stylish-sundays-proper-autumn/#comments Sun, 15 Sep 2013 18:49:04 +0000 mana http://fashionandhappythings.com/?p=1565 This week’s photos were taken on Friday the 13th. Which as I mentioned in my And Other Spooky Stories post, was actually a pretty good day for me. It was the first day this year that felt like proper Autumn, and I got to pull out Boots and a Sweater.

fashionandhappythings-0157

I’m wearing a Utility Jacket from H&M, Hollister Sweater, Gray Tank from H&M, Gap Legging Jeans, and Pink and Pepper Boots.

fashionandhappythings-0159

Even though it’s from Hollister and I’m not actually a fan of the Abercrombie company and it’s policies, I actually really love this sweater, and would totally buy more sweaters from them. This one is really soft and comfortable and washes well, even though it says dry clean only.
The jacket I bought from H&M last spring, and it’s absolutely awesome. I last wore it here. I adore this jacket, it’s comfortable and it’s perfect to layer with a sweater on extra chilly days.

fashionandhappythings-0163

These boots from Pink and Pepper I bought last year and I adore them. Despite the one inch heel they are incredibly comfortable and are my absolute favorite riding boots I’ve ever owned.

fashionandhappythings-0160

There’s no good close up of it this week, but I’m wearing the Pen Necklace Miss Cannady bought me last year for my birthday. I am obsessed. It’s probably my most worn necklace.

fashionandhappythings-0179

I am completely in love with my makeup from these photos too. I’m wearing Lancome’s Tient Visionaire foundation and concealer, Nars Deep Throat Blush, Lancome Eyeshadows, YSL Baby Doll Mascara, Lancome Rouge In Love Lipstick in Madam Tulip, and Makeup Forever HD Setting Powder.

fashionandhappythings-0176

Of course here’s Howl’s close up. If you’re wondering why his front leg has been shaved, that was from his time in the hospital. He is doing so so so much better, but he’s still on medication and constant surveillance.

How did your Friday the 13th go?

What to Wear: Christmas Day http://fashionandhappythings.com/2012/11/what-to-wear-christmas-day/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2012/11/what-to-wear-christmas-day/#comments Tue, 13 Nov 2012 21:10:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2012/11/what-to-wear-christmas-day/
I don’t know about you but I’ve already started thinking about what I’m going to wear for Christmas Day.  I always seem to spend it one of two ways. Usually we go to my husband’s family’s and have dinner there since we usually go to my family’s on Christmas Eve, but sometimes we cram in both family visits on Christmas Eve and spend a lazy day at home Christmas Day. Either way it’s mostly a chill relaxed sort of day. So I’ve set up 2 different outfits that would be perfect for either way. I don’t know how your family spends Christmas, but we tend to spend it eating and drinking, and that usually requires comfort, so the leggings in both these outfits are probably the most important part.

Christmas Day I’d wear this first outfit if I were spending the day lounging about at home watching Christmas movies and eating cookies.
It’s all from Gilly Hicks but it just looks so snuggly, and cozy I couldn’t resist. Its the Lilyfield Sweater in cream, and the Malabar Sleep Leggings in red stripe, and finished by the Cozy Socks. As you know I don’t match my socks by color, and I love the bow on these and that they’re all the same length which makes them super easy to mismatch together.

The second outfit is if I had to leave the house, I like to be dressed up but still really comfortable. I think this Sequin blazer from American Eagle, Perfect Racerback Tank from Madewell, Pixie Pants from J. Crew, and Riding Boots from Zara are perfect for this sort of outfit. It’s still really dressy with the Sequined blazer and black boots, but the easy tank, pixie pants and the riding boots being flat make this outfit still really comfortable and cozy. I especially love the pixie pants in this outfit. They have a great fit, and look amazing but they’re totally just like wearing your coziest leggings.

What are your Christmas Day traditions? and just as importantly, what are you going to wear?

My take on Western style or Giddyp Cowgirl? http://fashionandhappythings.com/2012/10/my-take-on-western-style-or-giddyp-cowgirl/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2012/10/my-take-on-western-style-or-giddyp-cowgirl/#comments Fri, 19 Oct 2012 18:39:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2012/10/my-take-on-western-style-or-giddyp-cowgirl/ Today I was getting dressed and I had an outfit in mind that didn’t end up looking like I thought it would once I put it on. So I had two choices change my entire outfit or keep the base pieces the same and change the way I was wearing them and my accessories.

So the outfit started with H&M skinny trousers, and an American Eagle light wash Denim western style shirt, origionally I wanted to wear it untucked, but I decided tucked in would be better today.

Then I added a Rose Gold H&M Belt, a floral and stripe scarf and a pearl bracelet. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten where I got both from. I also don’t remember where I got my sunglasses from.

Finally came my western inspired riding boots from Pink and Pepper, and I was feeling very cowgirlish.

The Final Result:

Obviously this outfit feels a little costume-y to me, and I think it would be much cuter with a white button down and maybe a different scarf, a longer one. But all in all I like it. It’s definitely different than what I usually wear but sometimes it’s fun to be a little costume-y with your outfit. Now where are those horses? It’s much more rancher/cowgirl than English riding style, but the English riding style will be coming soon I promise. Just as soon as I pick up a good plain button down. I think maybe a charcoal grey would be great.
