I mean I do still want to be Sailor Moon because my parents never let me as a child, but I’d only do that if I had a party to go to. I do remember when I was  a teen that many of my costumes came out of my own closet or a thrift shop. So when I decided to do a Halloween costume wishboard I decided to make it with that in mind.

Then as I was looking at PacSun for ideas, I saw holographic oxfords and immediately decided that if I were dressing up this year I would be Leighannsays for Halloween. Youtubers are the new CW stars. I look to them for fashion advice more so than anywhere else and I do have a few favorites. So I’m going to do a little mini series and make wishboards for youtubers I would be for Halloween. Then at the end of it I’m going to actually dress up and show you which Youtuber I decided to dress up as.

Today’s Youtuber is Leighannsays:

PacSun LeighAnnSays Halloween

Because who doesn’t adore her and her “I do what I want” attitude. Leighann is someone to be admired not because she’s pretty, but because she’s smart and fun and her life is a little bit messy and she shares that with us.

When making this wishboard I tried to think about what things I’ve actually seen her wear.  I know that she was big on the Holographic shoe trend and has some super cute oxfords that she’s worn and since the oxfords are what gave me the idea I had to include them. Then there’s this black skater skirt which is adorable and I could easily see Leighann wearing and I’m pretty sure she has something super similar to this cross top. I should have added in more jewelry because I know that Leighann has said in the past more is more, but I wanted to keep the wish board uncrowded. I loved this arrow ring and skull bangle for this look and since she almost always wears studs I went with these because I know she has a heart pair that’s she’s worn a few times. Check out some of her hair tutorials for your hair and either recreate her Dirty Princess Bun or her Big Texas Hair and maybe her Fall makeup tutorial and your look its complete.

You kinda might have noticed that everything is from Pacsun. Once I started I got on a role and everything just fell together. If you decide to purchase any of these items make sure you check out TeenScreen.org first for coupons.

If it is cold where you live then I recommend switching out the skirt for the Leigh Jeans from Topshop and wearing a fitted sweater with an animal on it. Preferably from Target’s girls section if it’ll fit you.

What youtuber would you dress up as?

Book Review: The Never List http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/10/book-review-the-never-list/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/10/book-review-the-never-list/#comments Wed, 09 Oct 2013 09:00:44 +0000 mana http://fashionandhappythings.com/?p=1672 fashionandhappythings-0293

Sarah and Jennifer are really careful, trusting their never list to keep them safe. A list they created after a horrible accident, one that made them more like sisters than friends. But one night they accidently break the worst possible rule they could on the never list and it costs them their freedom. Ten years later, Sarah is still trying to cope with the fact that Jennifer didn’t make it out of the cellar with her, and that the man who kidnapped them might be getting out for parole. Sarah decides she needs to find more evidence to keep that horrible man locked away.

The Never List by Koethi Zan was released early this year and I grabbed it while I was in a hurry at the library solely based on it’s title and the cover. I had absolutely no clue what it was about when I checked it out. I enjoyed this book. It’s dark and twisted, with plenty of things that you absolutely do not expect to happen. I think what made this book a bit darker for me, is that I have my own Never List of sorts. I grew up being very aware of the terrible horrible things that could happen to me. I still follow some of those rules I made up for myself, while others have proved to be unnecessary. However, reading this book, where these girls did everything they possibly could to keep themselves safe and they still ended up in this situation, absolutely horrified me. They were so careful, and they didn’t even mean to break the rule, it just happened.

Final Verdict: I fully recommend this book, I adored it and it’s going on my books I’ve read but want to buy and read again list.

Today’s outfit is actually a variation of one that I made a wishboard for last year.

fashionandhappythings-0319

I’m wearing a sweater from Gap, and the Victoria’s Secret Most Loved Leggings, my socks are from Target’s $1 section last Valentines Day.

On My Face: Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Siberia, Nars Blush in Deep Throat, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla and YSL Babydoll Mascara. Hair tie: Emi-jay. Glasses: Kate Spade

fashionandhappythings-0332

This is definitely an outfit that is cozy and comfortable, which was necessary because I sat down with this book and finished it all in one go. I like to be really cozy and comfortable when I read thrillers or horror novels, because it’s much easier to deal with the horrors of the world if you’re safe and cozy at home. I mean that’s so obvious that even Tool has a song about it.

Book Review: Cemetary Girl http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/09/book-review-cemetary-girl/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/09/book-review-cemetary-girl/#comments Wed, 18 Sep 2013 17:15:14 +0000 mana http://fashionandhappythings.com/?p=1593 I’m going to open with there’s no outfit for this one. I said that I would include an outfit if I were particularly affected by a book, and then just somehow got in the habit of posting an outfit with each review. However that’s not why there’s no outfit, honestly it’s just that I’m sick again, and from now until July you’ll be hearing that a lot. Between allergies and having a low immune system, I’m just constantly ill. It’s why I’ve done a couple of sick day posts. I will try my best to get Stylish Sundays up each week, but I can’t promise that the book reviews will always have an outfit.

Now onto the book review:

fashionandhappythings-9823

As you can see I picked this book up at Target and then ended up loaning it to my mother the same day. This book is incredibly disturbing. I didn’t find it as disturbing as my mother found it, but even so. However my Mother has two girls, and I have one boy so that might have effected things a bit. Especially when you consider my mom has read some incredibly fucked up books and not batted an eye.

It’s about the Stuart Family, Tom, Abbey and Caitlin, and the aftermath of Caitlin’s disappearance when she’s 12 years old. She’s found 4 years later eerily calm and unwilling to talk about the time she was gone. When an arrest is finally made she refuses to testify against him.

Having just had his marriage dissolve, Tom is obsessed with finding out what happened to Caitlin while she was gone, even going so far as to using her as leverage with her kidnapper to get them both to talk.

I found the whole book to be creepy, and I sympathized the most with the Father until the end when his obsession with finding out what happened to her sends him off the deep end. In the end I was just disturbed by everyone. I absolutely hated the mother, and found her behavior to be not only pathetic, but weak and selfish. She finds her religion, which is not a bad thing to do when your child is missing. I’m not a church goer now, but I can’t say I what I would do if my son were to go missing. No, the worst part is it’s implied that she cheats on her husband with and then she leaves him for the Church’s pastor. The only one that I didn’t end up hating was Caitlin and that was only because I attributed her behavior to what she’d been through the last 4 years.

Final Verdict: I don’t know if I recommend this book. I think I was too disturbed by it, it didn’t give me nightmares or anything, but I can’t see picking it up for a re-read anytime soon. If you’re into this sort of book then go for it.

Book Review: Things We Didn’t Say http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/09/book-review-things-we-didnt-say/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/09/book-review-things-we-didnt-say/#comments Wed, 11 Sep 2013 09:00:12 +0000 mana http://fashionandhappythings.com/?p=1531 fashionandhappythings-0049

I originally read this book over a year ago, and recently picked it up for a thumb through when I was sick. I forgot how much I liked it. Things We Didn’t Say by Kristina Riggle is a really moving story, told from several points of view over a period of 48 hours.

Stepping into a ready made family is never easy, and on the morning the Casey’s secrets are driving her out, Dylan her soon to be stepson disappears after being dropped of at school. In the ensuing terror and upset as the family searches for Dylan, Casey’s secrets, among others come out, changing everything.

This story was written really well. Everyone’s back story while perhaps a bit traditional, since you  have the new Fiance, the Father, the bratty teens, the overlooked middle child, the brainy youngest, and the Batcrap Crazy ex-wife, it’s all still really well written out. The people don’t feel flat or one dimensional. Casey seems to be the only one who keeps her head in all of this mess, everyone else either goes off the deep end with worry, or in the case of the ex-wife is incredibly self absorbed and thriving on the Drama.

For me this story was a bit out of my comfort zone. The family dynamic type stories aren’t ones I usually read. In truth, I usually read either flippy little murder mysteries, supernatural type books, or dark and twisted books. This book felt more like a messed up sitcom to me than any of those. But I did enjoy it.

Final Verdict, I recommend it. While it’s not a light read by any means, it’s still a really good one. I know I didn’t go into much detail, but it’s the secrets in this books that make it so interesting.

The outfit I’m wearing was inspired by Nina of after the 40 bar finish. I really loved the outfit when I saw her wear it, and remembered it instantly when I saw my floral pants sitting on the chair in my room waiting to be put away.

I’m wearing a Feed For Target Chambray, Floral Pants from H&M (last seen here) and Sam Edelman Calypso Flats in Black.

fashionandhappythings-0045

I paired it with my Lover’s Locket from Jewelmint, which has been one of my favorites for this season so far, and been pretty much just alternating with my Pen Necklace.

fashionandhappythings-0040

Close up of the Sam Edelman’s. These are definitely one of my favorite pairs of shoes and well worth every dime.

fashionandhappythings-0036

I also wore my Madewell Drifter sunglasses and had a pink Emi-Jay hairtie for pulling back my hair while driving.

fashionandhappythings-0038

On my face was Lancome’s Tient Vissionaire Foundation and Concealer,  Nars Deep Throat, YSL Babydoll Mascara, NYX Skinny Eye Marker Eyeliner, and whatever random lip gloss I grabbed out of my purse first.

I felt surprisingly comfortable in this outfit, even though tucked in shirts are way out of my comfort zone. Have you worn anything out of your comfort zone lately and then ended up feeling like you were pulling it off.

Stylish Sundays: Shades Of Blue http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/07/stylish-sundays-shades-of-blue/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/07/stylish-sundays-shades-of-blue/#comments Sun, 28 Jul 2013 19:07:26 +0000 mana http://fashionandhappythings.com/?p=1249 Or The Moody Blues

I have a favorite quote “When it comes to desire, when it comes to attraction, things are never black and white. Things are very much Shades Of Gray.” It was said by Brian Molko, the lead singer of Placebo. I try and focus on this quote as much as I can. What does that quote have to do with this weeks outfit? When I was getting dressed and decided my Feed Chambray would look good with my H&M Skater skirt, this quote popped into my head and I decided to go with shades of Blue instead of shades of gray.

I’m wearing a Feed for Target Chambray, H&M Skater Skirt

Accessories: White and Silver H&M bangle Light Blue Emi-Jay hairtie, Blue Gap Ballet Flats, Blue Twistband Headband and Silver H&M Leaves Necklace. fashionandhappythings-9601 fashionandhappythings-9598 fashionandhappythings-9596 fashionandhappythings-9590

I adored wearing this outfit. It was easy and comfortable and still really dressy. It’s the perfect outfit and with different shoes and tights it’ll be perfect for fall.

A quick note about the Twistband Headband and a bit of and Ode to Emi-Jay: I bought these ages ago with Birchbox points, and I hate them. They’re really thin and they hurt my head and I just don’t love them. I do plan on picking up some Emi-Jay headbands the next time I’m near the local shop that sells them. Everytime I’ve tried any of the Emi-Jay knockoffs, I’ve regretted it. I really adore the Emi-Jay hairties and personally I’m going to stay with the brand.

Feed USA + Target or Patriotic Haul http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/07/feed-usa-target-or-patriotic-haul/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/07/feed-usa-target-or-patriotic-haul/#comments Thu, 04 Jul 2013 17:01:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/07/feed-usa-target-or-patriotic-haul/ Happy (American) Independence Day. And what better way to celebrate than some good ol’ fashioned consumerism. Stimulate the economy and all that jazz, right? I went to Target yesterday, and Sephora on Monday so this is a collective haul. Both times I went in for something specific and accidentally bought other things on purpose.

From Sephora I bought the Fresh Umbrian Clay Mask, 2 L’Occitane Hand Creams in Hibiscus Flower and Mango Flower and since I spent more than $45 I got the Benefit Loves VIB’s kit which has Bad Gal Lash, Sugarbomb Lipgloss and Sunbeam.

From Target I got a white pair of mid-rise Mossimo Supply Shorts, a Tank  and Chambray Shirt from the new Feed USA+Target collaboration.

I know I talk a lot about wanting to visit France or move to Britain, but I do care about the country I live in now. Not only that, but I have a soft spot for “buy this and donate money to this” type things. I mean why wouldn’t you, if you were going to buy it anyway? Companies like Sevenly, which do a weekly set of items and $7 of your purchase goes to the charity they’re supporting that week, get me everytime. If I plan to buy a graphic tee I will almost always buy it from Sevenly.com  Which is why I’m completely obsessed with all of the Feed USA things at Target. I want it all and I can’t even ride a bike.

If you’re confused on what Feed USA is, it’s a charity that provides meals to American school children and family’s in need. It’s a charity that I support wholeheartedly, and I have purchased something from one of their collabs before, I just dunno what I’ve done with it. Sometimes the only meals a child gets a day are the ones they get from school, Feed USA makes sure they get that. Feed also partner’s with other countries and their goal is to end hunger world wide.

Stylish Sundays A Walk By The Park or More H&M http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/06/stylish-sundays-a-walk-by-the-park-or-more-hm/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/06/stylish-sundays-a-walk-by-the-park-or-more-hm/#comments Mon, 10 Jun 2013 01:29:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/06/stylish-sundays-a-walk-by-the-park-or-more-hm/ I know the phrase is “A Walk In The Park” but I wasn’t walking in the park I was across the street from it. It’s actually prettier than the park is. The camera’s battery died before I got all my usual pictures so I’m sorry about that but it couldn’t be helped.

See what I mean it’s a brick path with these sort of wild overgrown flowers all around it, and this was only in one section of the path. The whole place is similar to this with all sorts of different flowers.

For my makeup I actually changed things up a bit. Chanel Foundation, Nars concealer in Vanilla, Benetint, Girl Meets Pearl, and Bad Gal Lash.

My Outfit is a Grey Graphic Tee from Target with a Peach VS Pink Bralette underneath, and a Black Sheer Maxi Skirt with an underskirt for modesty and a side slit. I adore this skirt, and I have worn it several times since I got it and I’m already planning on how I can work it into my fall wardrobe.

I know this picture is the greatest shot of my shoes ever right? Sorry about that, but I’m just wearing my white Converse so it’s not the end of the world that there’s no closeup.

I wish I could have gotten a closeup of my jewelry, but like I said the battery died. I’m wearing my Tiny Owl Necklace that I got years ago from I think Forever 21, a Blue Dream Catcher Bracelet from the Friendship Festival, and a VeeV Acai Berry Bracelet. I love this Bracelet from VeeV and which I’ve worn to death and I’m really surprised this is it’s first outing on the blog. If you’re wondering what VeeV is it’s an Alcohol that’s made from Acai Berries and it can generally be used in place of anything you’d use Vodka for. I adore it. I’m usually get hung over after just one drink no matter the brand, but I’ve not ever had that problem from VeeV.

Howl says Drink Responsibly and Don’t Drink Underage.

Gift Guide for Children http://fashionandhappythings.com/2012/11/gift-guide-for-children/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2012/11/gift-guide-for-children/#comments Mon, 26 Nov 2012 06:09:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2012/11/gift-guide-for-children/ Children are probably the most fun to shop for at Christmas time. I love buying toys, and I see so many that make me wish I were still a child. Still it can be hard to shop for little kids sometimes. I had hoped to get this up by Black Friday, but life happens and sometimes you get busy. At least I’ve gotten it up in time for Cyber Monday. There are links provided, but obviously you can find the items at other places like Toys R’ Us and Amazon. Or Target or where ever toys are sold.

First of all, it is not a good idea to buy a small child a toy just because it makes noise. I know it’s fun, but really all the parent ends up doing is taking out the batteries when the child isn’t paying attention. Toys that have small pieces usually just get vacuumed up, sometimes on accident, sometimes on purpose. Also you should make sure the gift is age appropriate. There’s a reason there is an age range printed on the box. it’s for safety reasons.

For young children Lego Duplo blocks are a great gift. Even if they end up with multiple sets it’s still great because then they just have more to build with. They have sets that are aimed at girls and ones that are aimed at boys. Perfect for ages 2-5.

For slightly older children about ages 3-7 it’s a bit harder, this is when they really start getting into different things. But you can usually be save with something Disney Princess related for girls and superhero for the boys. All though there’s always some cross over, where the girl would be more happy with the spiderman, and the boy totally has a thing for Belle. If you know that it makes it much easier to shop. And of course once again Legos are still a good option, but if they’re a little older say closer to 7 than 3 it really opens you up to a lot more of the awesome playsets they have.

From ages 7-10 you should probably try and ask the child what their interested in, at this age generalized gifts are a bit harder, but you can usually get away with the latest movie, or toy craze.

Children are very easy to shop for, most of the time you can buy nearly anything aimed at their age range, and if the child is picky than I’m certain their parent or the child themselves will have some ideas for you.
