I’ll start with the bonus item first. Which is the Vitabath Asian Orchid and Coconut Hydrating Lotion

fashionandhappythings-0578

It smells amazing, but seems a bit out of place because the Coconut makes me think of summer. I do love it though.

Everything else on the other hand was really nice and absolutely spot on.

There was the Rimmel Scandal Eye Retro Glam Mascara which is very nice. It has a dry formula and gave me an effect similar to the YSl Shocking but not quite as big.

Next in the box was these Dr. Scholls for her cozy cushions insoles which I plan on putting in either my Wine colored Old Navy shoes or in one of my pairs of Hunter Rainboots. These feel insanely soft and I can’t wait to use them.

The last beauty product and my absolute favorite thing in the box were the Kiss Gradation polishes. They’re just so pretty, I got them in the color Film Noir but I noticed a gold version of these polishes in the little add in the box and I really want to pick that one up too. I love the Glitter, it’s just so stunning.

Then there was food included in the box:

Some Blueberry Belvita cookies which are absolutely delicious

and finally a Lindt Lindor Milk Chocolate Truffle. These are some of my favorite chocolates and I’m so excited about this one.

I think these vox boxes just keep getting better, and this has been my favorite one yet. Thank you so much Influenster for providing these items for me to try out. What item would you most like to see a review on?

Review: Nars Deep Throat http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/review-nars-deep-throat/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/review-nars-deep-throat/#comments Mon, 25 Feb 2013 03:16:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/review-nars-deep-throat/ I know Nars is known for their naughty names, but I don’t mind them. After awhile of playing with makeup, you kinda get used to the strange and sometimes dirty names. The most talked about blush Nars has is Orgasm, but I feel like there’s a bit too much glitter in it for me. However, I purchased Nars Deep Throat a few days ago, and since I’ve managed to wear it everyday since. So, I thought I’d do a bit of a review on it.

I’ve never been truly obsessed with a blush before, I’ve had ones I liked a lot, like Too Faced Papa Dont Peach, but never one I’ve adored. I have had this since Saturday and I’ve managed to wear it everyday since, and normally I only wear makeup 2 or 3 times a week.

Deep Throat is a peachy-pink-coralish color. On me, I feel like it leans more on the pink side, but if I want more of a peach look I can build it up to that. The shimmer that it has looks less like shimmer or glitter and more like a sheen or glow. Which I adore.

I love that I can put on a thin layer for just a bit of a flush, or really build it up for a dramatic effect. I kinda regret not buying the fan brush my Sephora guy, Maxwell, recommended with it, but that will be remedied when I go back for bronzer later this spring.

Mostly I’ve been wearing this with just my Dr. Jart+ BB Cream, YSL Shocking Mascara, and sometimes a bit of Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner in Bourbon and the new YSL Volupte Sheer Candy lip color. Kind of just letting the blush do the work. Normally I don’t go that simple with my makeup until the hottest days of summer, but I’ve been feeling really good with my makeup this wy, and am super happy with this look.

I mean, just look at it! I don’t have anything else to compare it too, but I do know I’d like to try another Nars blush in the future. Maybe one that looks dewy and fresher for the summer, or maybe all I need to do is add a good highlight and a bronzer.

Fresh Faced and Flushed Cheeks http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/fresh-faced-and-flushed-cheeks/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/fresh-faced-and-flushed-cheeks/#comments Fri, 01 Feb 2013 21:03:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/fresh-faced-and-flushed-cheeks/ I loved the makeup I had on in yesterday’s post so much that I decided to do a post about it all on its own.

For my face I used Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation, Tarte Amazonian Clay Concealer which I love so much it as its very own post here, and finally Fashion Admirer which is a Lancôme Eyeshadow for blush. I’m out of blush and still haven’t bought any yet. It’s because I’m extremely indecisive and am now looking at Inglot instead of Lancôme. I actually kinda really liked it as blush though so its all good.

Unfortunately I didn’t get as good of a shot of my eye makeup as I would have liked, but blame me and not the photographer. For my eyes I used Urban Decay Primer Potion, Too Faced Kiss The Bride all over the lid from the Romance Palette and Lancôme Fashion Admirer in my crease  which is the same one I used as blush, and Off The Rack in the inner corner, and Daylight as my highlight on my brow bone from the Color Design Palette that I got as a free gift with purchase, . Then I used Urban Decay Bourbon 24/7 glide on eyeliner and YSL shocking Mascara for my top lashes which I also adore so much it has its very own post here and Lancôme Definicils Mascara in Black for my bottom lashes which was also in my Christmas gift set.

For my lips I used Tarte’s LipSurgence Lip Tint in Joy and I adore it. I’m extremely pale so bright lip colors stand out all the more on me, but I’m okay with that. I received this in a birch box and it maybe one of my favorite things I ever received from them.

Below I have some swatches of the products used and close ups of the shadows.

From Left to Right: Urban Decay Bourbon 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil, Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Joy, Too Faced Kiss The Bride, Lancôme Fashion Admirer and Off The Rack

I loved this makeup look, if felt very fresh for the upcoming spring, and I loved the monochromatic look. I will definitely be repeating it in the very near future. What’s your go to makeup look for spring?

Review: YSL Shocking Mascara http://fashionandhappythings.com/2012/11/review-ysl-shocking-mascara/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2012/11/review-ysl-shocking-mascara/#comments Wed, 28 Nov 2012 19:34:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2012/11/review-ysl-shocking-mascara/

Recently I ran out of mascara, and decided to try something new. So while perusing the shelves of Sephora, I spotted YSL’s Shocking Mascara. Okay that’s a lie, actually I went to Sephora specifically looking for it. That aside if I had just spotted it without having heard of it from Fleur de Force I would have bought it anyways.

The full name for this mascara is YvesSaintLaurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking. That is definitely a mouthful, but I believe it lives up to it’s name. It retails for $30. Before I get into what the mascara does, lets talk about what initially grabbed me, which is the packaging. It’s absolutely gorgeous, just look at it. (Why yes, that is a pumpkin in the upper right corner of the photo, these shots were taken right before thanksgiving.)

YSL is a Luxury brand, and it definitely shows, The packaging is just lovely and feel really solid. The cap gives a very satisfying click when you close it, which makes me feel like it’s sealed better and will keep the product from drying out longer. Just looking at the packaging makes me feel giddy, and I love the way the YSL always lines up when you’ve completely closed the tube. It’s this kind of attention to detail that makes this product. I absolutely hate when you buy something that doesn’t line up anymore when you close it.

Then there’s the brush which is also really nice. It’s kind of midsized, full but not overly full like Bad Gal Lash from Benefit is and has a bit of twist to the bristles which really helps it catch and evenly coat all of your lashes. This is the best shot I got of the brush, you can sort of see the twist that it has, but it’s sort of hard to capture.

Then there’s the mascara itself which is absolutely lovely. The formula seems very wet to me, which I don’t usually like, but this goes on smoothly and dries quickly. The box says it gives indecent and spontaneous volume. I don’t know about indecent and spontaneous, but it does give an amazing amount of volume. But as the cliche goes “The proof is in the pudding”, so the only real way to prove how amazing this looks in through photos. These photos are unedited, just cropped.

Here’s my eyes before the mascara:

In this photo I’m wearing a pink glittery/metallic eyeshadow from Lancome called Off The Rack which was a free gift with a $50 purchase, Urban Decay’s Bourbon  24/7 Glide on Pencil on my upper and lower lashline and on my tightline with Tarina Tarantino’s Eye Dream Hyperliner in Broken Doll on my waterline and in my inner corner and my eyelashes are bare. If you notice my eyes are sort of different shapes and it’s really noticeable without mascara, and my eyelashes look non-existent on my upper lashlline.

Here’s how my eyes look with one coat of the YSL Shocking Mascara:

My eyes look more open and brighter and less bloodshot, and I adore what this does to my lashes. They look so long and full. I fully believe this mascara lives up to it’s name. I really believe that these pictures are worth more than words. I truly love the effect the mascara has on my lashes and how it changes the way my makeup looks.

Dare I say it? I do, I really believe this mascara may be my Holy Grail mascara. Obviously, it’s not perfect for all occasions, I wouldn’t wear it if I’m wearing absolute minimal makeup and wanted a really natural look. But that’s not what Holy Grail means to me, to me it means that it’s my absolute favorite. I’ve tried nearly all the drugstore mascaras on the market and a few of the higher-end ones including Inimitable Intense from Chanel which was lovely and also $30, but I haven’t loved anything as much as as I love this one from YSL.

The images in this post were taken by my husband and belong to me, the mascara was purchased by me, and all other products were purchased by me unless otherwised stated. This post does contain affiliate links.
