L.J. Smith is known for the Vampire Diaries, but she has some other amazing books as well. Dark Visions is one of them. It’s a trilogy which focus on Kaitlyn Fairchild, who has psychic abilities and is believed to be a witch. She’s offered a place at the Zete’s institute along with the other 4 top psychic teenagers in the country. While there she and the other students uncover a plan to use their abilities as a weapon and spend the next two books trying to escape and defeat the head of the Zete’s Institute, Mr. Zetes.

I really loved these books when I read them, they’re YA books and I went through a phase a few years ago where I was obsessed with Supernatural YA books. This is one of the few books I kept from that phase, and one of the even fewer that I’ve made the time to reread.

My Final Verdict: I definitely recommend this for my younger readers. The trilogy is probably just a bit longer than the longest Harry Potter book, but doesn’t drag at any point. It’s a quick and fluid read.

These booties are very recent from Old Navy, they actually still have them. My best friend got these for me as a belated birthday present and I kinda really adore them. Despite the heel they’re really comfortable and I love the way they look.

See what I mean?

It was really rainy and dreary the day we too these photos, which is exactly the sort of day I love. I’m looking forward to more and more days like this, and more days spent in my coziest clothes.

Stylish Sunday’s: Something Wicked This Way Comes http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/10/stylish-sundays-something-wicked-this-way-comes/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/10/stylish-sundays-something-wicked-this-way-comes/#comments Sun, 13 Oct 2013 19:25:25 +0000 mana http://fashionandhappythings.com/?p=1707 Every year my town has a Fall Festival that I always attend. It has a few carnival rides, standard fair food, but really I only go for the Hot Apple Cider. I only like one ride there and that’s the Sizzler or Scrambler depending on which company is providing the rides. I usually am pretty lazy with what I wear since I’m running around with my 7 year old.

fashionandhappythings-0353

I wore a sweater from Hollister, a tank from The Limited, Victoria’s Secret Most Loved Yoga Pants, and my Pink and Pepper riding boots. Not Pictured Alex & Ani October Birthstone Bracelet. I did say I’d do an outfit where I made these pants acceptable for public. This is one of them. The only issue was my sweater kept riding up and that was irritating because even though it was long enough, it didn’t look long enough.

fashionandhappythings-0359

On My Face: Nars Sheer Glow in Siberia, Nars blush in Deep Throat, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla, Benefit Watts up, Benefit They’re Real Mascara, Various Lancome Shadows. Hair pulled back in a very messy bun using an Emi-Jay hair tie.

fashionandhappythings-0367

Howl was a bit apprehensive about a carnival in the fall. He’s in good company though.
fashionandhappythings-0347

Howl wore his Worthy Dog Harness. I think he was just happy to be out and about.

fashionandhappythings-0123

A big reason why I like going to this festival is because it reminds of one of my favorite Ray Bradbury books Something Wicked This Way Comes. I know book reviews usually go up on Wednesdays, I really do recommend either this book or the movie for fall. It’s about a carnival that comes to Green Town in mid-October called Cooger & Dark’s Pandemonium Shadow Show. Mr. Dark being the true owner of the carnival is also the Carnival’s illustrated man bearing a tattoo for each person bound to the Carnival. The Novel focuses on 14 year old boys (12 in the movie) Will Halloway and Jim Nightshade and Will’s Father Charles. The boys are excited for the Carnival that comes so late in the year but Charles Halloway is apprehensive about what it could mean.

I adore this book, and have for years. As I mentioned before it’s a bit hard for me to be unbiased when it comes to Ray Bradbury’s writing because I’ve loved his books since I was a child, and The Halloween Tree is one of the very first books I remember reading. It’s also the first movie I remember watching. I do recommend it though. Ray Bradbury is a famous Author for a very good reason and if you’ve never read his work before then this is a good place to start.

Stylish Sundays or Easter Fail http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/04/stylish-sundays-or-easter-fail/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/04/stylish-sundays-or-easter-fail/#comments Sun, 07 Apr 2013 20:10:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/04/stylish-sundays-or-easter-fail/ Today’s post was meant to be what I wore for Easter, but it was cold and we didn’t have a lot of time to take pictures before we had to leave for Sunday dinner, so I ended up messing up all the photos. My head shot turned out well so instead it will be a makeup post.

I was wearing YSL Touche Eclat Foundation, which I love, except it broke me out terribly and completely ruined my Murad Test. Like horrible awful allergic reaction. I’m redoing the test though, so instead it will be 2 month test.

I have on Nars Deep Throat blush, Benefit Leggy Eyeshadow with Too Faced Ever After in the outer corners, with Urban Decay Bourbon 24/7 Eyeliner and YSL Shocking Mascara. I also used Leggy as a cheek Highlight and YSL #9 Cool Guava for my lipstick.

I teased my hair a bit and put it in a bun and pulled out a few pieces around the front.

The Dress and Necklace are from H&M as were my shoes and you’ve seen them all before in a haul.

Stylish Sundays or Taking A Cozy Walk http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-taking-a-cozy-walk/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-taking-a-cozy-walk/#comments Sun, 24 Mar 2013 17:48:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-taking-a-cozy-walk/ Sometimes you just want to be comfortable, and that’s totally okay. But there is a right and wrong way to do comfortable.

Right is a long shirt and leggings like you’ll see below. Wrong is ratty nasty sweats, like you’ll see on most women in my town. I don’t know why people think it’s okay to walk out of their house looking like that. I can only assume that they have no self respect.  That makes me Sad. Like Sheldon looking at stupid people Sad.

Here I am falling off the balance beam

I woke up last Saturday and decided to talk a walk with my family. So I got dressed in my coziest comfiest Saturday outfit and I was good to go. Then I decided I felt cute and convinced my husband to grab his camera. It was really lovely outside. I really enjoy grey days, and it started raining on the way home and rained for the rest of the day. Honestly, it was the perfect day.

We decided to go down to our local park, because they have a nice trail with a pretty wooded area. I actually do a lot of my pictures here, because the park is so close to my house and it has a lot of pretty or interesting areas for photos.

On my face is my Dr. Jart+ Black Label BB Cream, Nars Deep Throat Blush, YSL Shocking Mascara and YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in Cool Guava. I know, it’s the exact same. I can’t help it, it’s simple and it works. My hair is a wreck. This was not an intentional messy bun, this was a my hair won’t do a damn thing so it’s messy, oh well bun.

I’m wearing my new Twill H&M Jacket, Gap Studded Tee, Hue Leggings and Coral and Tan H&M Flats. I love this jacket,it’s warm and it has such a pretty print inside. I’m pretty fond of the Utility style of it, and that thanks to a snap the hood always looks perfect. The Top is an old favorite, I’ve had for two years, and every time I put it on I always think I should buy more tees from Gap. Obviously I adore these Hue leggings. They’re opaque and comfortable, plus they hit my ankle at just the right spot. I was totally not a good idea to wear these shoes on the walk because they were new and it was not the best time to break them in.

Despite the face that it gloomy out I still needed my sunglasses, these are from H&M. I’m wearing Illamasqua’s Speckle on my nails. It’s gorgeous, I’m in love, I don’t think I need to say anymore about it. But I probably will, later. I don’t really go anywhere with out them. I adore H&M’s sunglasses, okay I kinda adore everything from there. I swear about 90% of my closet is H&M. I just can’t help it, the prices are great and the quality is amazing. I’m a bit obsessed.

Okay I have to be a bit honest about something with you guys. My husband is kinda a professional photographer. He’s currently working as a programmer, but yeah. So that’s why my photos always look so great. I’m learning very slowly to take photos, but for the most part every photo you see on this blog has been taken by my husband, except the crappy iPhone pictures. Okay even most of those. They’re only crappy because they were taken on an iPhone rather than his DSLR.

However, there is very little editing ever done. He’ll fix the lighting if need be or he might clean up my face if I’m suffering from a particularly bad break out. Which sometimes can be a lot of work. But my product photos are true to real life color, and my review photos of the product on my face are as they appear in real life. He doesn’t need to do a lot of editing because he knows how to work his camera, and how to tell a person to pose so they look nice.

We don’t do the make me look thinner, or add extra “makeup” to my face. If I can’t apply it properly myself, and if I don’t look good in my pose that’s my fault. While he could fix it, I prefer for him not too.

So I told you all this to say, yes I am that pale in real life. That’s not a trick of the lighting, or editing or whatever. I really do look like an extra from Interview With The Vampire all on my own.

Stylish Sundays or Comic Books http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-comic-books/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-comic-books/#comments Mon, 18 Mar 2013 00:10:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-comic-books/ I know today’s post is going up late, it’s been a very busy day,and I just lost track of time. There is a bit of a back story behind the local I chose for this weeks outfit pictures. My dad collects comics, he has since he was a kid. He actually taught me to read using the names on his Character Cards. That’s not the actual name of the cards, but they’re like baseball cards for comic book characters. Both he and my mother play role playing games. That’s actually adorably how they met. I spent a lot of time as a child exploring comic shops because of this, most specifically Comic Book World. So when a comic shop opened up a few towns over from where I live I had to check it out. Then I discovered the owner had hand painted on a super cool Spiderman on the side of his shop, and had a cool poster collage on his window. So I decided that it was the perfect place to take this weeks photos, and after obtaining permission did just that. So to make a long story short (Too Late!) lets jump into the outfit post.

I’m wearing a White Tee from Madewell, Blue Skirt with Red Polka Dots from The Limited, White Converse and my Tiny Owl Necklace from Forever 21.

On my face is Dr. Jart+ Black Label BB Cream, YSL Mascara, Nars Deep Throat and Tarte’s Lipsurgence In Joy. And you can’t see it but surprise, surprise on my nails is Cheyne Walk by Nails Inc. I know you’re all so stunned, I just never use that color
I swear my hair isn’t that blond in real life, it’s just the lighting.
This outfit was really easy and comfortable, but I felt like it didn’t look like I thought it would when I planned it out on my head. While the Images are great, I feel like this wasn’t the most flattering outfit I’ve ever worn. So why did I put it up? Because this isn’t stylized, these outfits are actually things I wear in my day to day life. After I we took these photos, I went shopping. That haul will be up in the next couple of days.
P.S. When I was little I wanted to be Kitty Pride or Jubilee.

Stylish Sundays Or Going Dotty http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-going-dotty/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-going-dotty/#comments Sun, 10 Mar 2013 19:03:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-going-dotty/ I kinda really loved this weeks outfit. It was super comfortable, and pretty much my if I were 5 years old outfit. It’s all my favorite things all at once.

First on my face the only thing I’ve changed in my usual routine is I’m wearing Lancôme Rouge in Love Ever So Sweet on my lips. I love it. The rest is my bog standard YSL Mascara, Dr. Jart+ BB Cream, and Nars Deep Throat Blush. I let my hair air dry naturally and then brushed it out so it wouldn’t be as curly. On my nails is the Nails Inc Cheyne Walk, I adore this polish still and have been wearing it for nearly a month straight.

For my outfit I’m wearing a Lace Tank from a local store and a H&M Jacket

H&M Jeans that I polka dotted myself,

my Red Hunters

and my Kate Spade Gumdrop studs but you can’t see them.

I loved this outfit, but it was actually much to cold to be wearing it. I bought that jacket in the Summer and it’s just super thin cotton so it actually doesn’t provide anymore warmth than a long sleeve tee would have and it was 40 degrees out that day. The lace tank was super thin, and as you can see in a few of the shots, the lining doesn’t go all the way down to the bottom of the lace.

Other than those two issues though I was pretty in love with this outfit. The pants make me feel like a kid but in a good way. Carefree and happy, not immature. This outfit was really fun to way and as you can see by the top picture I had a blast taking the photos for it.

I’m also really in love with this wall behind me. It’s near the river in my home town and I felt that it was the perfect setting for this outfit.

So readers, what is it that gives you that Carefree, Happy feeling? and if you can’t name something, I recommend you go find it.

Stylish Sundays or Kirsten Stewart Inspired http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-kirsten-stewart-inspired/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-kirsten-stewart-inspired/#comments Sun, 03 Mar 2013 20:30:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/03/stylish-sundays-or-kirsten-stewart-inspired/ Originally my idea was for a Marie Antoinette inspired outfit, the movie obviously, but as I began playing in my closet I found it transformed more into something I could see Kirsten Stewart wearing.

I don’t know about you, but I actually really love Kirsten Stewart’s style. Honestly if you smash her style and Taylor Swifts style together, I think you’d come pretty close to what’s my closet. This outfit felt like it really straddled the line between dressy and grungy, and its probably one of my favorites.

Top: Madewell Earrings: Unknown

Skirt: The Limited Bracelets: Tiffany’s and Gift Nails: Nails Inc Cheyne Walk

Shoes: Raspberry Converse High Tops

Makeup: Dr. Jart+ Black Label BB Cream, Nars Deep Throat, Too Faced Romantic Eye Pallete, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner Pencil in Boubon, YSL Shocking Mascara, YSL Seer Voulpte Candy in Cool Guava

These last two pictures are really just for show. I especially love the second to the last picture. This photo shoot was a major challenge for both me and my husband. It was only about 40 degrees Fahrenheit outside, and as you can see it was full dark. It was warmer earlier in the day, and we planned to get out earlier to shoot, but the best laid plans and something about mice…I dunno.

I was absolutely freezing in all of these shots. But it was still a lot of fun, and I feel like the final two shots are absolutely amazing. I guess I’m just really lucky I have such a great photographer.

Review: Nars Deep Throat http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/review-nars-deep-throat/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/review-nars-deep-throat/#comments Mon, 25 Feb 2013 03:16:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/review-nars-deep-throat/ I know Nars is known for their naughty names, but I don’t mind them. After awhile of playing with makeup, you kinda get used to the strange and sometimes dirty names. The most talked about blush Nars has is Orgasm, but I feel like there’s a bit too much glitter in it for me. However, I purchased Nars Deep Throat a few days ago, and since I’ve managed to wear it everyday since. So, I thought I’d do a bit of a review on it.

I’ve never been truly obsessed with a blush before, I’ve had ones I liked a lot, like Too Faced Papa Dont Peach, but never one I’ve adored. I have had this since Saturday and I’ve managed to wear it everyday since, and normally I only wear makeup 2 or 3 times a week.

Deep Throat is a peachy-pink-coralish color. On me, I feel like it leans more on the pink side, but if I want more of a peach look I can build it up to that. The shimmer that it has looks less like shimmer or glitter and more like a sheen or glow. Which I adore.

I love that I can put on a thin layer for just a bit of a flush, or really build it up for a dramatic effect. I kinda regret not buying the fan brush my Sephora guy, Maxwell, recommended with it, but that will be remedied when I go back for bronzer later this spring.

Mostly I’ve been wearing this with just my Dr. Jart+ BB Cream, YSL Shocking Mascara, and sometimes a bit of Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner in Bourbon and the new YSL Volupte Sheer Candy lip color. Kind of just letting the blush do the work. Normally I don’t go that simple with my makeup until the hottest days of summer, but I’ve been feeling really good with my makeup this wy, and am super happy with this look.

I mean, just look at it! I don’t have anything else to compare it too, but I do know I’d like to try another Nars blush in the future. Maybe one that looks dewy and fresher for the summer, or maybe all I need to do is add a good highlight and a bronzer.

Stylish Sundays or Floral Kicks http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/stylish-sundays-or-floral-kicks/ http://fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/stylish-sundays-or-floral-kicks/#comments Sun, 24 Feb 2013 01:37:00 +0000 mana http://new.fashionandhappythings.com/2013/02/stylish-sundays-or-floral-kicks/

So I’ve finally decided what day I’m going to post my outfit posts and how I’m going to title them. In case you didn’t notice. Also I loved Bullwinkle as a child. But Mr. Peabody and Sherman was my favorite.

Just a warning, it was an absolute miserable day when these photos were shot. It was cold cold cold, and I was super de duper unhappy about it.

I’m wearing a Trench Coat from Express and my absolute favorite scarf from H&M. I actually got the Coat in a sale, for about a 4th of its original price. My favorite bit is that the sleeves are lined with a coral/hot pink color that looks really cute when you turn them up, which I usually do. The scarf is an infinity scarf in dark raspberry pink and a lighter kind of strawberry smoothie type pink. It’s super soft, and very snuggly without being to bulky. I have my absolute favorite Sunglasses from H&M on my head, they have burgundy frames.

My top is from Madewell and my trousers are H&M. I love this top, its a baseball style tee with Hot Pink stripes and Navy blue sleeves. another one that I got an amazing deal on. They had a really great sale last year and I actually bought quite a bit. The pants are my absolute favorite. I love them so much that I have them in both blue and black. I would have bought them in all the colors but I thought that was to many. I really regret not buying them in the blush color.

These shoes are from H&M a few years ago. They reminded me of shoes my mom would have worn in the late 70′s. I’m absolutely impatient for spring and flowers everywhere, so I decided to put the flowers on my feet. These were super cheap at only $7 and are great for just kind of kicking about if I’m not doing anything special.
I kinda really loved this outfit, even though I froze my ass off. I’ll definitely be repeating this or some variation of it, when it gets warmer.
For details about my makeup, see my Nars Deep Throat Review.
